Amazing aromatic organic tea – A taste of heaven

There is nothing as refreshing and relaxing as a fresh cup of tea considering that it is the second most widely consumed drink in the world after water. While black tea represents approximately 72% of total consumed tea in the world I drink almost every kind of tea there is. Earl grey is a top choice but for me nothing beats a good natural herbal tea. And when I say natural I mean it. Peppermint, fennel, linden, sage, chamomile, Greek tea, verbena, marjoram and much more are always in my collection using them both for cooking and infusions.

There are many reasons why I love herbal tea but the most important are:

  • Herbals have great therapeutic virtues and they hydrate your body.
  • They hardly contain any caffeine so you can drink as much as you want all day.
  • If you don’t add sweeteners they are calorie free

During the past five years numbers show that sales of herbal teas are blooming as women cut out caffeine in the quest for a healthier life, with fruit flavored teas taking the lead. A wonderful choice if you ask me but we should be aware that most of them contain artificial flavorings which is an irony for people who want to make healthier choices. Good news is that it is easy to identify the natural ones from the artificial ones only by reading the labels. If we want to be honest to ourselves as consumers we must learn to read product labels.

On the other hand there is always the home made solution which is also my favorite. Make your own flavored tea and you won’t regret it. The taste is unbeatable and your body is going to love you for this treat of vitamins and antioxidants.

Here is what you need to do:

  • 1 organic apple
  • 1 organic orange
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tea bags of linden, chamomile or verbena
  • 1lt of water

  1. Wash your fruits well and cut them in quarters.
  2. Put them in a cooking pan with 1lt water and 2 cinnamon sticks.
  3. Bring to boil and reduce heat to medium-low and let it slow boil for 10 minutes
  4. 10 minutes later take out from heat and dive in the 2 tea bags with the herb of choice, let it rest for another 5 minutes.

Your very own homemade fruit flavored herbal tea is ready to drink. If you need any sweeteners I would suggest a teaspoon of fine organic bee honey.

I want to thank my good friend Angelica from Corinth-Greece for the amazing recipe and the beautiful pictures. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
