Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears. With fear of failure being the greatest barrier to success have you ever wondered…

What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

Everyone hates to fail, but for some people, failing presents such a significant psychological threat their motivation to avoid failure exceeds their motivation to succeed. This fear of failure causes them to unconsciously sabotage their chances of success, in a variety of ways. Fear of failure could be linked with feelings like worrying about criticism, doubting yourself and your capabilities, worrying about disappointing others, procrastinating and eventually sabotaging yourself or even experiencing some last-minute headaches, stomach aches, or other physical symptoms that prevent you from completing your tasks.

These of course are not official diagnostics and most of us feel these things to some extend occasionally.

The next time you notice yourself getting stressed out or feeling afraid of something not working out, try out something I’ve been practicing for quite some time now. Sit quietly by yourself, set your timer for two minutes and start taking deep breaths. Notice where you feel tightness or tension in your body (it could be stomach or even your lips), and simply concentrate into that area for the two minutes.  When the timer goes off after two minutes, chances are the feelings will have shifted. The more you do this, the more you will trigger your body’s natural calm response and you will move through fear with greater ease.

Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.

  1. Great post! It took me a couple of years to get over fear of failure and I finally took the plunge to go to school, start a blog and open an etsy shop. I know I’m in the beginnings but I have high hopes!

  2. I do this too – sitting quietly, accepting the feeling – and then realizing it will pass. It really helps to be aware and present and conscious that the feeling will shift. I often light a scented candle and play some Chopin too! Works like a charm to lift my spirits! ❤

    1. I have been dealing with many set backs over the past years and I had to find a way to overcome them. It was only then I realized that my fears were my biggest set backs. Those techniques worked really well and the candle idea sounds great! You are absolutely right, warm pleasant scents can easily fix my mood!
